Howard: “Julee, from facebook ah, I already know your age”
Julee: “Really? How?”
after some haggling…
Howard: ”Your photos for your birthday showed how old you were ma, so I can calculate”
Julee: “REALLY?? So how old am I?”
Howard: “26″
Julee: “Wrong! I’m 25 + +” *grins*
Brandon joined in the conversation here.
Brandon: “Wa… 25++? *deep in thought* Mmm…
Queue: Brandon’s famous one liners.
Brandon: “Still got chance.”
All round everyone reacts Whoaaaa….
Julee: ”What?! You mean after I become 26, I got no chance?”
Brandon: *laughs*
After many more jokes about being 26 and biological clocks ticking, how guy’s start freaking out and running away when girl’s turn 26 and how I only have 20 days to “save” myself etc. The conversation moved on, until…
Caleb: “Julee, you still got chance.”
Julee: “Awwwww… So sweet! That’s really comforting.”
Now you know who your “true” friends are.
by the way: I don’t care bout how old I am, I just find it hilarious how it becomes a big deal when a girl talks about her age.
A story was once told of a baby elephant in the Indian jungle who was separated from its herd and taken into captivity. At the place of captivity, the baby elephant would try to escape, but because the piece of rope tied to its back left leg was too strong for its tender legs, it failed at every attempt.
The more it struggled to get away from the piece of rope, the more it tugged and cut at its skin, till one day, the poor baby elephant gave in to the pain and stopped struggling. Soon, the piece of rope becomes a part of its life – a habit, a second nature, a response.
As the baby elephant grew, the piece of rope became comparatively puny. Though the strength of the elephant is now able to break the rope and its freedom attainable, the elephant sits there without a single struggle because of the simple belief that it could not overcome that piece of rope and that it has become a part of who it is.
Similar with us, we look at our past, the things that have been or the sins in our lives and allow it to paralyze us and keep us from moving forward. This bond is like the rope that ties us to where we are and keeps us captive to our sins/past.
Even when the promise says that “there is now no condemnation in Christ Jesus, we are a new creation, the old has gone, the new has come“, or “by His stripes we are healed” etc, our belief that the rope is too strong for us keeps us where we are, and we forget that, “He who is in us, is greater than he who is in the world“
Hence, we get stuck.
I feel like the grown elephant happily having a rope around my leg.
I’ve got 20 days to “un-stuck” myself =)
Just in time for worship retreat too
Be careful little eyes what you see
It’s the second glance that ties your hands as darkness pulls the strings
Be careful little feet where you go
For it’s the little feet behind you that are sure to follow
It’s a slow fade when you give yourself away
It’s a slow fade when black and white have turned to gray
Thoughts invade, choices are made, a price will be paid
When you give yourself away
People never crumble in a day
It’s a slow fade, it’s a slow fade
Be careful little ears what you hear
When flattery leads to compromise, the end is always near
Be careful little lips what you say
For empty words and promises lead broken hearts astray
It’s a slow fade when you give yourself away
It’s a slow fade when black and white have turned to gray
Thoughts invade, choices are made, a price will be paid
When you give yourself away
People never crumble in a day
The journey from your mind to your hands
Is shorter than you’re thinking
Be careful if you think you stand
You just might be sinking
It’s a slow fade when you give yourself away
It’s a slow fade when black and white have turned to gray
Thoughts invade, choices are made, a price will be paid
When you give yourself away
People never crumble in a day
Daddies never crumble in a day
Families never crumble in a day
Oh be careful little eyes what see
Oh be careful little eyes what you see
For the Father up above is looking down in love
Oh be careful little eyes what you see
For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” (Matt. 6:21)
None of our hearts are in our own keeping. If God be our treasure, He has called for our heart. “My son, give me your heart” (Proverbs 23:26) Let any earthly thing become our treasure and it will take away our heart.
Whatever has your heart, has your thoughts the most. The first and most dear of our thoughts are spent on what our treasure is. What are the eyes of your mind fixed upon? That is your treasure and that has your heart. Whatever the heart has fixed upon as its treasure, the mind reviews with its thoughts.
Thoughts do show the true mindset of a person. A thought is the freest act that we can have. A thought is where a mind can most, “be itself”. In our thoughts we can honestly, “think what we will”.
Thoughts reveal the soul more than anything else. Our thoughts are the first acts of our soul, for our soul is always acting. Whatever thoughts our hearts are consumed with, there is where the heart is.
My friends, we find the world can steal our hearts, but we always end up feeling empty. The next world event will probably be bigger and more shocking than the last. In the end we are here for two reasons, I believe, and nothing should steal our hearts from these:
We are here to become Christlike. We are here to grow in the knowledge, wisdom and practice of godliness.
We are here to serve Christ. We are on earth to represent Christ as His ambassadors (2 Corinthians 5:20). This can mean many things, but we exist, as followers of Christ, to advance His kingdom, whatever it takes.
This means that our hearts and our thoughts must not be compromised by the world for any reason. It matters not what world events are going on.
Thought for today: It was 96 years ago today when President Roosevelt said the United States should, “Speak softly and carry a big stick.” The first time this statement was used, I believe. Jesus said, in Matthew 5:39, “…whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn to him the other also.” These statements must not have anything in common or relate to each other, right? or not right?
The job of carrying the gospel to remote tribes hidden in strange and dangerous places often requires a courage and daring equal to that displayed by the explorer in search of a new river or the soldier in the performance of his duties. There are missionaries who are born adventurers; while wholly consecrated to Christ and utterly devoted to the glory of God […]
The cry against the idea of moral retribution reveals several deep-lying misconceptions. These have to do with the holiness of God, the nature of man, the gravity of sin and the awesome wonder of the love of God as expressed in redemption. Whoever understands these even imperfectly will take God's side forever, and whatever He may do they will cry with […]
Verse"Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands." — isa 49:16ThoughtNo doubt a part of the wonder which is concentrated in the word "Behold," is excited by the unbelieving lamentation of the preceding sentence. Zion said, "The Lord hath forsaken me, and my God hath forgotten me." How amazed the divine mind seem […]
Verse"I will pour water upon him that is thirsty." — isa 44:3ThoughtWhen a believer has fallen into a low, sad state of feeling, he often tries to lift himself out of it by chastening himself with dark and doleful fears. Such is not the way to rise from the dust, but to continue in it. As well chain the eagle's wing to make it mount, as […]
