Monthly Archives: August 2008

It has been an amazingly refreshing two months.

Started off with the Kluang weekend with Malaysian Youth Prayer Gathering (MYPG)

Then the 40-day prayer and fasting launch at SIB.

Then the Passion World Tour with the message of the “God of this City”.

Then the Petaling Jaya Prayer Day.

Then the National Prayer Conference.

And today, marks the 51st year of independence for Malaysia.

50 years has passed. The Jubilee has passed. Spiritually speaking, this year is the year of new beginnings. As Winston Churchill said: It is not the beginning and it is not the end. It is the end of the beginning.

The past 50 years has been accounted for. Now is the start of a new Malaysia, with a new name – Salvation.

Too much to reflect on after all the above events! The events are but names. What transpired WITHIN these events have marked a crucial moment in my life. It is, to date, one of my largest mile stones in my life! :D At the moment, got not enough time to properly evaluate. We are only doing our petaling jaya prayer day post-mortem tomorrow! haha… So, will jot down more thoughts when I’m done on my own personal reflection.

I leave you, with this amazingly powerful song:

Hosanna (Hillsong United)

I see the king of glory
Coming on the clouds with fire
The whole earth shakes
The whole earth shakes

Yeeeah

I see his love and mercy
Washing over all our sin
The people sing
The people sing

[Chorus]
Hosanna
Hosanna
Hosanna in the highest [x2]

I see a generation
Rising up to take their place
With selfless faith
With selfless faith

I see a near revival
Stirring as we pray and seek
We’re on our knees
We’re on our knees

[Chorus]

Heal my heart and make it clean
Open up my eyes to the things unseen
Show me how to love like you have loved me

Break my heart from what breaks yours
Everything I am for your kingdoms cause
As I go from nothing to
Eternity

[Chorus x2]

Hosanna in the highest

Lord, Break my heart from what breaks Yours. I do not want to be a generation that does not know You. I want to be a generation that walks the land in faith, the Joshua generation who crossed over and took possession of the promise land. I want to be a generation of Samuel’s, who hear God’s voice and obeys. I want to be a generation of Nehemiah’s, who will rise up to trumpet the rebuilding of the broken walls of the church. And in Christ, nothing is impossible. Thank you Lord. Amen.

The anticipation is really getting on my nerves!!! I’m about to cry, really. I think either way, whatever the results are, I will just cry and say that God is still in control of our beloved country, Malaysia.

A local election in Malaysia has turned into a vicious battle between two men who want to be the country’s next leader, the BBC’s Robin Brant reports from Penang.

A by-election in the north of Malaysia does not strike you as a headline grabber. The government is not on the brink of collapse. The economy – one of the strongest in the region – is robust. The people are not killing each other, as they have done in the past.

But millions are being spent, the day-to-day business of government is on hold. The battle for the constituency of Permatang Pauh has become a fight for the future of the country.

Deputy Prime Minister Najib Razak told the BBC: “This is a titanic struggle”. Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim has used similar language.

“The Malaysians… consider this a critical point in our history,” he said, “whether we get the mandate to chart a new course for Malaysia or we should just be happy with the same corrupt establishment.”

Mr Najib and Mr Anwar both want to be the next prime minister of Malaysia.

Mr Anwar was once the heir apparent, but he was sacked from the cabinet in 1998, accused of sodomy, then jailed. The conviction was later quashed and, 10 years on, he is back – this time on the opposition side.

Mr Najib’s father was prime minister and so was his uncle. He is from a dynasty that seems more royal than Malaysia’s royal families.

Malaysia has been run by the same side for over 50 years. But earlier this year that looked as though it could be coming to an end.

Mr Anwar led a new coalition to an unprecedented showing in the general election in March. It did not win, but it came close. Ever since then he has claimed that a few dozen government parliamentarians are preparing to defect.

‘Malicious campaign’

First things first, though; Mr Anwar needs to be elected to parliament. He was banned from standing until just after the general election. He is almost certain to win this by-election, which is to be held on Tuesday.

It would be a victory heavy in symbolism, cementing his revival. It would give him legitimacy as an elected politician once more and a crucial platform in parliament to attack the government.

That is why Mr Anwar must be stopped – if you see it from Mr Najib’s point of view.

With Mr Najib in charge of the government campaign, religion has been a big issue.

A few weeks before he became a candidate, Mr Anwar was accused of sodomy for the second time in his career. It is illegal in Malaysia and punishable by 20 years in jail.

He has denied the claims, made by a man who used to work for him, calling it a set up; a carbon copy of the allegations made a decade ago.

Mr Najib admits that he met the 23-year-old accuser before the police got involved. Mr Anwar has claimed that the deputy prime minister orchestrated a smear campaign.

As the election campaign has neared its end the sodomy allegation has been used to question Mr Anwar’s Islamic credentials. Malaysia is a mostly Muslim country and in this election in particular the core voters in the villages of Penang are Muslim.

Mr Anwar told the BBC: “What’s shocking is that the deputy prime minister himself is directly involved in this malicious campaign.”

Najib Razak denies that charge. “[Mr Anwar] has been very personal, I have not been personal,” he said. “He’s got that penchant for doing all these things.”

‘Clear conscience’

These two men share so much; a determination to be Malaysia’s next prime minister, a determination to annihilate each other. Both are also facing career-ending allegations.

Mr Anwar has been accused of sodomy. A trial is likely next year.

Mr Najib, meanwhile, has been dragged into a murder trial. One of his closest advisors is standing trial for the killing of a young Mongolian woman.

The deputy prime minister was forced to go public last month to deny he had anything to do with it. It has damaged his reputation significantly. “I think I’ve done enough to clear my name,” he said. “There may be some questions but… I think I have cleared my name.”

It is rare for him to talk about the case in public. He told the BBC: “I’ve come out very clearly, very confidently, my conscience is clear.”

Mr Anwar is almost certain to win the by-election in Permatang Pauh, but he must win big if he is to build on the momentum his opposition has massed since that general election surprise in the spring.

The ultimate goal is to bring down the government. Mr Najib is determined to stop him and he appears to be throwing everything possible at him to do it.

News travels fast. Bad news travels even faster.

The devil always seeks to steal, kill and destroy. Furthermore, his one main weapon is deception. So the saying goes, ignorance is bliss. Deception is living in sin, without even knowing that you are in sin. My definition of it… which I doubt is complete, but it will do for the time being… (hmmm deceptive?? )

Again, with this bad news, I am sure many Christians around the world would be feeling disillusioned, doubtful and sad. If you look at hillsong’s This is Our God site of course they had to take the song off and also put a note on, in light of this shocking news. I am sure that there is no other form of action that Hillsong’s could have taken… if they hadn’t done this, they would surely be attacked left right and center by the many Christians out there who do not look on this kindly at all.

This reminded me once more, of how one false move can undo a lot of good things. How one single lie can cause a domino effect which discredits all previous actions (and in this case, the composition of one amazingly impactful song).

Which yet again reminds me, of The Dark Knight. (I am so sorry, I truly am one who gets a lot out of movies!!!)

The Joker’s aim was to expose and tempt the white knights (Inspector Gordon, Batman and Harvey Dent) to the ‘dark side’ (oops… crossing over to Star Wars pulak). The whole point was that if either one of them became evil, all their past actions become discredited, and in this case, when Harvey Dent gave up his principles and rules to become one filled with darkness, the consequence was that all the prisoners that he has put into prison would be let loose, bringing greater hell to the people of Gotham.

Of course, in the movie, batman and inspector Gordon covered up Harvey’s tracks and made him into a hero in his supposed death, so that the prisoners would not be let loose and all the good that he has done would not be undone in a split second.

Hmm. Covering up aint good. but hey, its a movie.

Now, in a more ‘holy’ example, King David’s fall into sin with Bathsheba caused him consequences far beyond himself, affecting his whole kingdom and his future generations. Yet although the consequences still had to be borne, King David was able to step out of living under the consequences of his sin through his repentance and rediscovery of the joy of his Salvation in Him.

So, I really truly and sincerely pray for Mike and his family and all that has been affected by this (including myself), that Lord, Your Grace will be sufficient for all our weaknesses, and that You would help us to live in the Light and to be truly God-fearing. Deliver us from the deception of the devil which blinds our eyes to Your truth and set us free once more, that we may live in Your fulness of joy!

Amen

Ps – all my previous blog entries which has the Our Healer song has been deleted from You Tube because of this and therefore can not be played.
