A story was once told of a baby elephant in the Indian jungle who was separated from its herd and taken into captivity. At the place of captivity, the baby elephant would try to escape, but because the piece of rope tied to its back left leg was too strong for its tender legs, it failed at every attempt.

The more it struggled to get away from the piece of rope, the more it tugged and cut at its skin, till one day, the poor baby elephant gave in to the pain and stopped struggling. Soon, the piece of rope becomes a part of its life – a habit, a second nature, a response.

As the baby elephant grew, the piece of rope became comparatively puny. Though the strength of the elephant is now able to break the rope and its freedom attainable, the elephant sits there without a single struggle because of the simple belief that it could not overcome that piece of rope and that it has become a part of who it is.

Similar with us, we look at our past, the things that have been or the sins in our lives and allow it to paralyze us and keep us from moving forward. This bond is like the rope that ties us to where we are and keeps us captive to our sins/past.

Even when the promise says that “there is now no condemnation in Christ Jesus, we are a new creation, the old has gone, the new has come“, or “by His stripes we are healed” etc, our belief that the rope is too strong for us keeps us where we are, and we forget that, “He who is in us, is greater than he who is in the world

Hence, we get stuck.

I feel like the grown elephant happily having a rope around my leg.

I’ve got 20 days to “un-stuck” myself =)

Just in time for worship retreat too :D

Be careful little eyes what you see
It’s the second glance that ties your hands as darkness pulls the strings
Be careful little feet where you go
For it’s the little feet behind you that are sure to follow

It’s a slow fade when you give yourself away
It’s a slow fade when black and white have turned to gray
Thoughts invade, choices are made, a price will be paid
When you give yourself away
People never crumble in a day
It’s a slow fade, it’s a slow fade

Be careful little ears what you hear
When flattery leads to compromise, the end is always near
Be careful little lips what you say
For empty words and promises lead broken hearts astray

It’s a slow fade when you give yourself away
It’s a slow fade when black and white have turned to gray
Thoughts invade, choices are made, a price will be paid
When you give yourself away
People never crumble in a day

The journey from your mind to your hands
Is shorter than you’re thinking
Be careful if you think you stand
You just might be sinking

It’s a slow fade when you give yourself away
It’s a slow fade when black and white have turned to gray
Thoughts invade, choices are made, a price will be paid
When you give yourself away
People never crumble in a day
Daddies never crumble in a day
Families never crumble in a day

Oh be careful little eyes what see
Oh be careful little eyes what you see
For the Father up above is looking down in love
Oh be careful little eyes what you see
